Volunteer

People are our greatest asset!

The Gabriola Tool Library is run entirely by volunteers — there’s always a way you can join us to contribute your part.

You don’t have to be an expert on tools — we also need people who like people (and helping them find what they need), people who understand (and aren’t intimidated by) computers and social media, and people who enjoy helping a non-profit organization to fulfill its mandate.

Sometimes we just need someone with a truck to pick up a donation, or someone to sit at an information table at the Spring Fair.

You can volunteer on an as-needed basis, or commit to taking a two-hour shift once a month, become a mentor to an individual or a project, help out at the Fix-it Fair or garage sale event. It’s up to you to choose which aspect of our activities best suits your interest and abilities — and your available time.

Here are some activities where your participation is welcome:

1. Front Line Crew: These folks greet you when come in to become a member, to borrow tools, and to ask for advice on your projects.

2. The Tool Pool: These folks help assess, maintain and repair the tools, add them to the inventory, and deliver and conduct tool-centred workshops, advise on purchases of new tools.

3. The Organizers: These folks keep the books, apply for grants, update the website and social media, plan or participate in fund-raising events, develop projects to improve the effectiveness of the GTL.

Please contact us if you’d like to participate. The GTL truly is a community effort and a community resource. Thank you!
