Using the Library

How It Works

A tool library works just like a book library: members can borrow, renew, and reserve tools, and have online access so you can browse the inventory, monitor your account, review due dates, outstanding charges, etc.

The standard loan period is two weeks, with an option to renew for an additional two weeks if the item has not been requested by another member.

Overdue fines for power tools are $2.00 a day, all other items $1.00. A few items in very high demand may have a shorter loan period with a higher overdue fee.

Overdue fines will apply only to days the library is open (Saturdays and Tuesdays). For example, if a tool you borrowed is due back on Saturday but you can’t get it to the tool library until Tuesday, the overdue fee will be for one day only.

Membership

Regular Annual Membership fee is $40.

However, we have a Pay-It-Forward option to ensure that everyone in the community has access to the tools. If you can afford to pay extra when joining, this will allow another member to pay an amount they can afford.

If you need help to cover the membership fee, let us know: we have set up a Sponsorship Account which will allow us to reduce the fee to ensure the tools donated by the community are shared with everyone.

How to Join the Library

To become  a member, follow these three steps:

1) Come see us in person at the tool library shed on Saturdays between 10 am  and 2 pm, or on Tuesdays from 5 pm to 7 pm

2) Bring photo ID that includes your street address, and cash or cheque to pay the annual membership fee. A volunteer will help you create your own account on the tool library software, which will allow to browse the inventory and check the due dates on items you have checked.

3) You will need to sign our Liability Waiver and the Membership Agreement & Tool Use Policy, to show that you understand the responsibilities of membership and agree to follow the rules of participation.

Once you’ve done these three things, you can borrow the tools you need. We look forward to seeing you!
